VIRGINIA NEWS: Repealing Prohibition of Marijuana A Local Election Issue in Scottsville VA ================================================ "Several candidates for the May 4 election say they support the issue because it's a way to decriminalize marijuana and generate income for the government ... Scottsville town councilman Bebe Williams says if re-elected he'll seek a town resolution calling on the federal government to legalize marijuana ... Candidates Brandon Maupin and Ron Smith say the criminal element could be eliminated if marijuana was grown and sold under government control ... Write-in candidate Lisa Roberson says marijuana will eventually be legalized, so government officials need to decide now how to deal with the issue." The League of Women Voters will be conducting the event. This public forum will permit the local citizens to hear each Town Council and Mayoral candidate's stance on the issues. Aside from predetermined questions for the candidates there will be time allowed for questions from the floor. ================================================ 3. You have the right to express yourself, no matter if someone else is offended by it. The First Amendment doesn't "grant" you that right, it is inherent in you when you are born. The First Amendment, rather, acknowledges you have that right and says government shall not violate it. ================================================ 4. VIDEO: Waco: The Rules of Engagement ================================================ A few days ago, April 19, was the 17th anniversary of the infamous day in 1993 when the Feds torched seventy-six Protestants. With a hat tip to Anthony Gregory, who writes: "The documentary 'Waco: The Rules of Engagement' is online, and well worth watching. The filmmakers set out not to indict the government but to tell the story of the odd Davidians - which they had assumed would vindicate the government. But this is not where the evidence led them." Noble -- the man who both approved of and help cover-up government slaughter of 76 people including 20 children at Waco -- is now the Top Cop at the UN (secretary general of Interpol). Who said crime doesn't pay? THE LIBERTARIAN SOLUTION: To relieve the headache caused by irresponsible, unresponsive, bureaucratized, and unaccountable government law enforcement, privatization is the correct path. Think private police protection is a "new" idea? It isn't. Proof is in your nearest Yellow Pages, under "security". What *is* a new thing in law enforcement -- at least in the United States -- is the bloated salaries and budget-busting pension plans that are now all the rage in the bureaucratic law enforcement sector. Personally, I like the idea of "micro security", where a single neighborhood bands together to hire an officer just sufficient to patrol its own area. This could be implemented within Homeowners Associations (HOA's). One hundred households paying $50 per month each for security would pay for an officer's salary, a patrol vehicle every two or three years, and other equipment. Plus, as an employee of the honest (private) sector, the officer and his employers might actually face real liability if he turns out to be a thug. McVeigh was executed on June 11, 2001 for his April 19, 1995 bombing of the Arthur P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. NATIONAL NEWS: Government Rhetoric Suggests False-Flags Ops Imminent ================================================ In case you haven't noticed, government rhetoric towards dissenters has become markedly threatening under the current administration. And of course then we have the alleged "Hutaree Militia" plot. "... There are a lot of scared people in Washington, and I suspect that the Obama administration will step up its efforts to further have the FBI infiltrate the Tea Party movement. So far, we have seen a massive effort by the government and the mainstream media to falsely claim that the TP folks were hurling racial slurs at black members of Congress ... My sense is that the FBI will push even harder, trying to get some fringe people in the TP to "plan attacks" or something like that, and then the government will swoop in and make arrests, and the New York Times and CBS News will publicize it to no end. We have seen this kind of thing so many times before that what I am writing should not be shocking to anyone who reads this blog. EXPLORING LIBERTY: The LP's "3.2 Internal Security and Individual Rights" Plank ================================================ This issue, we bring you the Libertarian Party's platform position #3.2, "Internal Security and Individual Rights", which reads: -------- The defense of the country requires that we have adequate intelligence to detect and to counter threats to domestic security. This requirement must not take priority over maintaining the civil liberties of our citizens. The Bill of Rights provides no exceptions for a time of war. Intelligence agencies that legitimately seek to preserve the security of the nation must be subject to oversight and transparency. We oppose the government's use of secret classifications to keep from the public information that it should have, especially that which shows that the government has violated the law. -------- Of course, the best way to "counter" threats to domestic security is not sow hatred around the world with our meddling. The government should heed the wisdom of the LP platform plank we reviewed last issue, which said: "The United States should both abandon its attempts to act as policeman for the world and avoid entangling alliances." ================================================ 8.
