Dear Readers,
Virginia libertarian James Quigley wrote this week about the City of Hampton's
exploding 'debt bubble':
"... Hampton Coliseum cost tens of millions of dollars to build, and is losing
$1 million a year in general maintenance costs. The developments along Power
Plant drive cost additional tens of millions of dollars and a terrible human
cost through eminent domain. The H2O condo development the city ventured into
was not completed and the city has lost half a million dollars so far. The
tearing down of the Coliseum Mall complex cost the city more than $35 million
dollars so that the city could fund the development of the Peninsula Town
Center, at a further cost of $92.5 million dollars of new debt financed through
city bond issuance through the Community Development Authority (CDA)..."
