Dear Readers,
The Roanoke Times recetly published an opinion article by our Vice Chairman,
Jim Lark, regarding the current proposals to cut public broadcasting funds
supplied by the state of Virginia.
"... governments do not exist to inculcate virtue, promote a shared national
identity, encourage us to appreciate Beethoven and Chekov or make us eat our
vegetables. Rather, to the extent a government has any legitimate purpose, that
purpose is to protect the life, liberty and property of its citizens. Taxing
citizens to fund public broadcasting doesn't pass that legitimacy test."

Take a few minutes to check it out -- it will be available on their website for
a time.
