ATTENTION ALL LPVA MEMBERS
Please read this entire email very carefully. It is extremely important
that all LPVA members follow these instructions.
Unfortunately we will need to start all over on the LPVA presidential
petition drive because one of our electors flipped congressional districts.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This is a once every 20 years
type of situation (redistricting happens after the census every 10
years, and half the time it occurs in the middle of the presidential
cycle rather than at the start of the cycle). The problem was
exacerbated by the legislature and the governor dragging their feet and
giving us mixed signals.
Details at Ballot Access News:

We have updated the petition so that all electors are now in the new
congressional districts.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL LPVA MEMBERS CEASE USING THE OLD PETITION
AND START USING THE NEW PETITION.
The petitioning website has been updated:
http://lpva.com/HTML/2012petitionDrive.php
See the "DOCUMENTS" section of that webpage to download the legal size
and letter size petitions.
Legal size petition:
http://lpva.com/Archives/Documents/Election/2012PetitionFormLegalSize.pdf
Letter size petition:
http://lpva.com/Archives/Documents/Election/2012PetitionFormLetterSize.pdf
Be sure to reload the page, because if you have accessed the page before
it might give you the old petition from your browser's cache without a
reload. The new petitions list "James Todd Martinsen" as the 7th
congressional district elector. Double check that the petition you
download lists Martinsen.
Please do not throw away the old petitions with signatures. Instead get
them notarized and send them in to the petition drive coordinator ASAP.
We are considering pursuing a lawsuit and may be able to rehabilitate
already collected signatures. After you send in any old petitions with
signatures on them, throw out your blank old petition forms so that you
don't accidentally use them in the future.
Petition drive coordinator:
James W. Lark, III
P.O. Box 274
Free Union, VA 22940

Any new signatures should use the new petition forms. Do not try to
fill up partially filled pages of the old petitions.
Additionally, any "easy signatures" you got on the old petitions should
be re-collected on the new petitions. (Ideally you should let the
petition coordinator know which signatures were re-collected or cross
them out on the old petitions after you get them on the new petitions,
to make it easier to avoid double counting if we are able to
rehabilitate signatures the old petitions.) For example, if Charles E.
Moulton, Jr. signed Jim Lark's old petition and James W. Lark, III
signed Chuck Moulton's old petition (always sign your name as appears on
your voter registration card), then we both should re-sign on a new
petition so we'll have 2 less signatures to worry about in the 10,000
signature requirement should our lawsuit not succeed in rehabilitating
the old petitions.
Thanks for your work on this, and I am sure that we will ultimately
prevail in getting the Libertarian Party's Presidential ticket on the
ballot in Virginia in 2012.
Chuck Moulton
Chair, Libertarian Party of Virginia
