Dear Colleague,

On September 15th in Waynesboro, your state committee members gathered at our
3rd quarter 2012 meeting, and discovered that the hijinks that Virginia's state
legislators played with redistricting had cost us dearly. The short version of
the story is that our petition drive to get Gary Johnson on the ballot had
thoroughly emptied our bank account.

The reasons are many, and most had to do with the state dragging its feet on
redistricting. It's hard to put elector names on your petitions when the state
refuses to tell you what the district boundaries are! The delayed district
boundaries made it much more difficult for volunteers to collect signatures on
short notice; so we had to push our full-time petitioners to produce more paid
signatures.

Then we had other costs and hassles, the last of which was a last-minute
challenge by hack lawyers hired by the Republican Party to try to get Gary
Johnson removed from the ballot. The Johnson campaign and the Virginia LP
together spent a couple of thousand dollars responding to the Republicans'
arguments and making sure Libertarian spokesmen showed up at the Board of
Elections meeting in Richmond where the Republican challenges would be heard.

Right now, we're pretty much broke.

The LPVA made it through this ballot drive, but only by a hair. We still owe a
pair of petitioners about $3,000, which is bad enough.

Even worse, we don't have any resources left to prepare for activities this
fall, or even 2013. Longer term, if we don't begin saving up for the 2016
ballot drive, we may very well miss getting our presidential candidate on the
ballot in Virginia next time around!

I am contacting you because I know you want a more Libertarian society, like I
do. But unless we get started right away at building our finances back up, we
will not be able to participate in any meaningful way in the Johnson campaign
during the critical last 30 days until the election on November 6th.

Please help us out -- take a moment right now and contribute whatever you can
afford to help your party get back on its feet.

If you can afford to donate $1,000, that would be wonderful. We will be able
to settle up (in full) with our petitioners with just a few donations like that.

But if that's beyond your means right now, $500, $250, or $100 still is a great
help.

I know all too well that these are tough economic times for some -- but even
$50 or $25 will get us back on our feet. Or you can simply make a small
monthly donation. Twenty dollars a month is reasonable and over time will put
us on a firm financial base.

Please go to http://Contribute.LPVA.com and donate whatever you can, right
away. We need to pay the rest of what we owe to our hard-working petitioners,
and we can only do that with the financial support of our members.

Thank you in advance for your time.

P.P.S. And don't forget to mark your calendar for Election Day, Tuesday,
November 6th -- just 39 days away!
