Mr. Secretary: I do not agree with your first paragraph below.
I have been to a lot of LPVA conventions over the years, and I do not recall potential delegates to the National Convention stating their preferences for Chairman or President. Usually we have had fewer people who wish to attend National Conventions than available delegate slots and just about anyone who is a Party member and has wanted to be a Delegate has been elected as a Delegate to the National Convention. I do not intend to comply with your request, and I think any potential delegate to the National Convention should not have to comply with your request. I will work at the Convention on Saturday to not have this disclosure be a requirement to be a Delegate to the National Convention. If anyone has responded to your request, Mr. Secretary, I ask you to keep that confidential and not publicize responses in any way. Anything responses already posted should be removed immediately. Thank you. Likewise, the Virginia LP assumes our delegates are ... well ... actually, "delegates". You, our members, are delegating your wishes to people who hopefully represent your wishes once they get to the National Convention business floor. With that in mind, we continue the long-standing LPVA tradition of inviting anyone who wishes to be a delegate to declare who he will vote for on the first ballot at the national convention -- BEFORE we elect them to serve as our delegate. Typically, people declare their top-ticket choices: chairman and president (although no one is prevented from declaring an entire slate). If you plan to seek one of LPVA's Delegate seats, please let us know who your National Convention first-round preferences are by emailing them to the Secretary at [email protected] or click <mailto:[email protected]?Subject=Delegate_First_Round_Picks> . If at all possible, the Delegate ballots we will be using on Saturday will have the name of each candidate for delegate, as well as their first-ballot picks.
