Dear mIRC User,

It is with great joy that I announce a new mIRC version. mIRC's new version
6.0 has been released sunday, February 3rd, 2002. You get this message
because you have subscribed to the mIRC Release mailing list. The new mIRC
is available from http://www.mirc.com/ and from all fast mirrors all over
the world. We also give a few download addresses below.

* How to upgrade?

As you know mIRC is distributed in a self-extracting cabinet that helps you
to install mIRC on your PC. Simply download the cabinet and run the
installer. Follow the instructions the installer program gives to you. When
upgrading all your old settings and scripts will stay as they were, if you
want that. Read the questions the installer program asks with care and
nothing can go wrong. You will be chatting with the new mIRC in no time. If
you get stuck or if you want to find out more about a certain feature, just
click on a Help button or browse the Help file and you should find lots of
hints to help you out. We also give some information on changed, improved
and fixed features and functions below.

* Where to download?

For the latest download addresses just go to the mIRC website. As a special
service to you we included some links below where mIRC (mirc60.exe) is
available already;

Chile           http://mirc.cyberblues.cl/mirc60.exe
Arizona         http://www.ess-us.com/mirc/mirc60.exe
Faroe Islands   http://www.countline.dk/mirc/mirc60.exe
Illinois        ftp://ftp.snowolf.com/pub/mirc/mirc60.exe
France          http://webperso.easynet.fr/mirc/mirc60.exe
Germany         ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/mirc.com/mirc60.exe

mIRC 6.0 is no longer available in a 16 bit issue. The most recent 16 bit
mIRC version is 5.91. It's installer is named mirc591s.exe. You can still
download this older version from the mIRC website. On the mIRC websites also
the new mIRC FAQ version 49 (mfaq49hp.zip) is available. The FAQ answers a
lot of questions regarding mIRC, IRC, DCC and the like. It also includes a
tutorial on Aliases, Popups and on 'programming' the Tools/Remote section...

As you know mIRC is shareware. It can be downloaded freely and evaluated for
30 days. Assuming you find that you enjoy using mIRC, it would be great if
you registered your copy. This licenses you to keep your copy of mIRC and
helps to support our continued work on mIRC. We offer a one time
registration, which works with all future versions of mIRC. You will never
need to register again.

* Improvements and new features:

As usual the new MIRC offers heaps of changes and improvements. Lots of
little and larger changes to smoothen your IRC experience. Since mIRC 6.0 is
no longer available in a 16 bit issue all references to the old 32 and 16
bit distributions have been removed. Lots of 16bit-specific code has been
removed from mIRC's routines. Lots of 16 bit related memory issues,
problems, kludges and bugs are solved. All dialogs in mIRC should now use
standard dialog fonts for the version of Windows you are using. When running
XP, mIRC now uses your XP theme for dialogs, buttons, etc....

Some of the many many improvements, changes and fixes in this new mIRC are;
- The max cps fserve option now allows a dcc send to use up the full max cps
  if no other dccs are using the bandwidth.
- You can now create a second editbox on channel windows, via the channel
  window system menu, the right-click menu in the editbox, or the Alt+Q
  shortcut.
- mIRC will no longer rejoin an open channel window if you disconnect and
  then connect to a different network.
- Added WMA/OGG support to sounds dialog, /splay and /sound commands, and
  added several new new identifiers to support it. (Note: these new
  identifiers replace several old ones that are still supported -for now-
  but no longer documented.)
- Added 'Trusted Users' list to DCC Auto-get options dialog.
- Firewall support can now be enabled separately for server and dcc
  connections.
- When running under XP, mIRC now uses your XP theme for dialogs, buttons,
  etc.
- mIRC now processes incoming server messages rather strict, ignoring
  corrupted or malicious lines, and treats ctcp messages that use an invalid
  format as plain text.
- Added "Queue own messages" option to flood dialog, applying to your
  PRIVMSG and NOTICE messages.
- The connect retry options (including a new retry delay option) in the
  File/Options/Connect/Options dialog now have their own button.

Multi-Server support has been added. With this feature mIRC allows you to
connect to multiple servers at the same time. You'll notice a new
File/Options/Connect/Options/ 'Multi-Server' button that provides a couple
of new options supporting this new feature. The new multi-server feature
required major internal changes to mIRC's code and forced improvement of
code in many areas which has undoubtfully resulted in an even more stable
and robust mIRC! Working on this important new feature we focussed on
keeping mIRC as it always has been; no-nonsense, robust, -working- :) We
tried to keep the changes to the scripting language etc, as clean as
possible. Upgrading should be fairly painless. Still a multitude of ID's,
identifiers and commands has been changed and added to support the new
parallel connections. Everything in mIRC now has an unique id number; all
windows, server connections, dcc sends/get/chats, etc....

You know by now that you have to dig through the help file and versions.txt
to get hold of the complete list of changes and their impact? Don't forget
that ;-) If you have questions, may we invite you to the Message Boards on
mIRC's website? These discussion forums offer great help with everything
related to mIRC.

I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with this new mIRC!

Tjerk Vonck.

* What is this mailing list and how can you unsubscribe?

This mIRC Release mailing list is a low volume, low frequency announcement
list. Typically you will get one message right after each mIRC release, only
a few times a year. The last time was 8 months ago, in June. The list is not
a discussion list, there will be only one poster - me, the listmaster of
mIRC Co. Ltd. We will not use or abuse this list for other messages. It is
very easy to get removed from this list. Just use the unsubscribe form found
on the Mailing Lists page on the mIRC website
