Dear mIRC User,

mIRC version 6.02 has been released thursday, June 6th, 2002. You get this
message because you have subscribed to the mIRC release mailing list. The
new mIRC is available from http://www.mirc.com/ and from all fast mirrors
all over the world. We also give a few download addresses below.

With this new release we hope to address most, if not all, of the comments,
requests and remarks we recieved after the release of version 6.01. Several
changes are initiated by the multi-server features introduced in mIRC 6.0.

* How to upgrade?

As you know mIRC is distributed in a self-extracting cabinet (mirc602.exe)
that helps you to install mIRC on your PC. Simply download the cabinet and
run the installer. Follow the instructions the installer program gives to
you. When upgrading all your old settings and scripts will stay as they
were, if you want that. Read the questions the installer program asks with
care and nothing can go wrong. You will be chatting with the new mIRC in no
time. If you get stuck or if you want to find out more about a certain
feature, just click on a Help button or browse the Help file and you should
find lots of hints to help you out. We also give some information on
changed, improved and fixed features and functions below.

* Where to download?

For the latest download addresses just go to the mIRC website. As a special
service to you we included some links below where mIRC is available already;

Virginia        http://mirc.secsup.org/mirc602.exe
South Korea     http://mirc.zice.net/mirc602.exe
Switzerland     http://mirc.swissirc.ch/mirc602.exe
United Kingdom  http://users.powernet.co.uk/graye/mirc/mirc602.exe
Illinois        ftp://ftp.snowolf.com/pub/mirc/mirc602.exe
Germany ftp://ftp.mirrors.degnet.de/pub/misc/mIRC/mirc602.exe

On the mIRC websites also the new mIRC FAQ version 51 (mfaq51hp.zip) is
available. The FAQ answers a lot of questions regarding mIRC, IRC, DCC and
the like. It also includes a tutorial on Aliases, Popups and on
'programming' the Tools/Remote section. Development of mIRC's 16 bit issue
has been stopped. The most recent 16 bit mIRC version is 5.91. It's
installer is named mirc591s.exe. You can still download this older version
from the mIRC website.

* Shareware

As you know mIRC is shareware. It can be downloaded freely and evaluated for
30 days. Assuming you find that you enjoy using mIRC, it would be great if
you registered your copy. This licenses you to keep your copy of mIRC and
helps to support our continued work on mIRC. We offer a one time
registration, which works with all future versions of mIRC. You will never
need to register again.

* Improvements and new features:

You might want to check out how the 'perform on connect section' has been
moved to the connect section, near the server settings, and allows you to
specify a different set of commands for different networks, and how basic
features as the /aop /avoice /protect and /ignore commands now allow you to
specify a network name.

The multi-line switchbar options in the display dialog have been extended,
mIRC no longer closes a channel window on reconnect to a server if you have
keep channels open enabled, no longer attempts to rejoin a channel on
reconnect if the channel was invite only or if it was locked and mIRC didn't
have the key.

Changes scripters will like include the $ticks which does no longer wrap
around every 49.7 days, custom dialogs that no longer require an ok or
cancel button, and new events like on CONNECTFAIL that triggers when a
connection attempt including its retries has failed.

Fancy new things have been added like the Alt+F1 key combination that hides
all windows associated to a status window switchbar button 'in' that button.
Try it and you'll see what I mean!

Several more or less annoying bugs have been fixed;
- A memory handling bug which may have caused mIRC to crash in situations
  where it wasn't able to allocate memory,
- a bug with mIRC not saving certain settings on exit, including /notify
  command line changes, as well as server settings, ignore thingies, etc,
- a tab key nick completion bug,
- a window tiling bug when a maximized window was closed while
  auto-tile/cascade was enabled,
- the on keydown/keyup events in custom @windows not handling some keys,
- editboxes that limited the amount of text that could be entered,
- the "* Disconnected" message not being displayed in channel window in some
  situations,
- a problem where mIRC was not using the system default for browser/email
  programs,
- a small problem where the nick in a channel/query window titlebar not
  being updated on a nick change if the "Show nick in channel/query
  titlebars" option was enabled, and lots of other things are improved or
  fine-tuned after user feedback, your feedback!

May I remind how in version 6.0 multi-server support was added? With this
feature mIRC allows you to connect to multiple servers at the same time.
You'll notice the 'Multi-Server' button that provides a couple of new
options supporting this new feature. If you hadn't upgraded to version 6.01
yet, this is the moment to get 6.02!

Well, you know by now that you have to dig through the help file and the
versions.txt file included with mIRC to learn about the complete list of
changes and their impact? If you have questions, may I invite you to the
Message Boards on mIRC's website? These discussion forums offer great help
with everything related to mIRC and its features.

I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with this new mIRC!

        Tjerk Vonck.

This mIRC release mailing list is a low volume, low frequency announcement

a few times a year. The last time was 4 months ago, in February. The list is
not a discussion list, there is only one person posting; me - the listmaster
of mIRC Co. Ltd. We will not use or abuse this list for other messages. It
is very easy to get removed from this list. Just use the unsubscribe form
found on the mailing lists page on the mIRC website;
