Hello,Many of you know that WISPA has been and continues to work with wireless chip and equipment manufacturers and the FCC, FAA and NTIA to reduce interference to airport weather radars thereby allowing certification and delivery of new 5.4 GHz equipment to be restarted.
This report is based on information that was provided during our most recent (November 17) meeting with the FCC, FAA and NTIA. Our next meeting with the FCC is scheduled for January 12th.
Last month, airports experiencing severe interference included Chicago, Salt Lake City and San Juan Puerto Rico. This month the problems in Chicago and Salt Lake have diminished substantially however the problems in San Juan are still very severe. If you operate an outdoor 5 GHz network, please visit the WISPA/Spectrumbridge TDWR/UDIA database at <http://spectrumbridge.com/udrs/home.aspx>. Note your local 5.6-5.65 GHz TDWR frequency and exclude channels that are within 30 MHz (below or above) your local TDWR frequency from your equipment. In addition, please register your base station information in the database.
We need help from all WISPs and other 5 GHz network operators to spread the word about the need to avoid the TDWR frequencies. Please distribute hard-copy and electronic copies of the attached TDWR flyer to your employees, to other network operators, and to the manufacturers and equipment distributors that you do business with. Help is especially needed from manufacturers and equipment distributors who have so far (with a few exceptions) failed to “step up to the plate” and take responsibility for educating their customers about the need for TDWR avoidance. As WISPs, please help us “push” TDWR awareness back up through the manufacturing and distribution chain and back out to other outdoor network operators.
On behalf of WISPA; thank-you for your assistance. Respectfully Submitted, Jack Unger Chair - WISPA FCC Committee 818-227-4220 -- Jack Unger - President, Ask-Wi.Com, Inc.
