can i access a vss placed on a different machine???

It certainly has (I wrote and use the task) - have you got the optional.jar
file in your ant/lib directory?

If not you need to download it, otherwise can you tell me some more
information about your platform (OS, JDK etc.).

Note that the task name is case sensitive 'vssget'
