I think it would be much preferrable if open source projects 
* implemented standards rather than "embrace and extend" standards in
incompatible manners so as to make political statements
* was fixed rather than worked around (as is done with non-opensource
products).

I would suggest you send a bug fix to the GNU Classpath project.

BTW neither japhar, kaffe, classpth nor apache are opensource - they are
actually free software ;)
