Just FYI I believe this has been requested a few times by Apache people. Both Cocoon and Jasper need something like this to compile their XSP and JSP pages respectively. I remember at one stage there was discussion about creating a JSR to "fix" this but I am not sure anything came of it. It may be of use to ask "Pier P. Fumagalli" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> who is an Apache guy and a Sun guy. I think he was (or is?) either on the compiler team or at least has contact with them.
