The group of around 50 people, mostly from villages in the nearby Kumanovo area, blocked the Belrgade-Skopje road less than a kilometer from the Tabanovce-Presevo border crossing. They were demanding the release of their compatriots kidnapped by rebels of the ethnic Albanian National Liberation Army (UCK) and conditions for their safe return home. Protesters were stopping vehicles with the insignia and plates of NATO, its Kosovo peacekeeping mission KFOR and to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Other traffic was allowed to pass. The protest was organized by the non-governmental Macedonian World Congress - which earlier held the main crossing from Kosovo to Macedonia under a two-week blockade - and the national committee for displaced persons. Earlier Thursday an explosion rocked the northwestern Macedonia city of Tetovo, badly damaging the Ata Petrol motel run by an Albanian businessman, journalists who visited the scene said. The early morning explosion occurred near the main road from Tetovo to Gostivar, about 35 kilometers west of Skopje. An investigation was under way. In another incident near Tetovo, four Macedonian reservists were injured, one critically, in an explosion of an accidentally-detonated rocked propelled grenade. The critically wounded soldier lost an arm and doctors were still fighting for his life. Earlier, another bomb was detonated in front of a cafe of the Albanian section of the capital Skopje, causing damage but injuring nobody. On Monday three bombs were set off in Skopje, two of them in the same district. And on Wednesday one bomb exploded in the same area of Skopje, on the northern bank of the river Vardar.
