Xenophobia cannot be our ally Dragan Kalinic SDS leader At a party gathering in Banja Luka, members passed a statute denying membership to those wanted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Party leader Dragan Kalinic said the move was intended to improve the international reputation of Bosnia's Serb republic. The tribunal in The Hague has repeatedly accused the Bosnian Serb leadership of maintaining contacts with Mr Karadzic, who has been indicted for war crimes. International pressure The expulsion of Mr Karadzic is a recognition of the growing pressure on the SDS, which is trying to stave off political sanctions by the international community. Ratko Mladic is seen by many Bosnian Serbs as a hero These could go as far as banning it from politics for its failure to implement key parts of the Dayton Peace Accords, including refugee returns and the reconstruction of religious sites destroyed in the war. Recently the Bosnian Serb Prime Minister, Mladen Ivanic, called on Mr Karadzic and his former military commander General Ratko Mladic to give themselves up to the tribunal in The Hague - an appeal which is unlikely to be answered. Mr Karadzic, who is under indictment for genocide and crimes against humanity, has been in hiding since 1996.
