After drinking in a bar in Gradiska, a town on Bosnia's northern border with Croatia, one of the soldiers hit another patron and then held the local man's friends away at gunpoint, local police said. The soldiers then left the bar and began stopping cars, police said. Police used force to detain the four. The police contacted the local British commander, who ordered the men to return to their base. They refused. The four were picked up by their superiors and taken back to their base. Daryl Morrell, the spokesman for the Nato led peacekeepers in Bosnia, SFOR, said the incident is a British national matter and the four soldiers were sent out of Bosnia today. "The soldiers behaved in a way that is inconsistent with the standards expected of SFOR soldiers," Morrell said. Nearly 18,500 soldiers are deployed in Bosnia as part of the peacekeeping mission.
