Hey all, just a little bit of info I thought might interest you all. According to Misha Glenny, Radovan Karadzic founded Bosnia's first ever Green Party as the one-party system in the SFRY started to give way. Glenny uses this bit of data to illustrate how Serbian politicians apparently slip between ideologies really easily and are only a cynical lot, and to forward the popular thesis among the Islamist Sarajevo elites that Yugoslav patriots who fought the secession of Bosnia were really only frustrated professionals. Anyway this is the first time I heard of Karadzic's connection to the Green Party but I do find it interesting if true. Some of you might remember reading an interview in which Karadzic refers to his vision of Serbia as an environmental model for the rest of the world. This is in line with Bulatovic's declaration in the early 1990s that Montenegro was from here-on-in to be declared an "Ecological State" and that all legislation would have to meet ecological measures. It seems that the remaining pro-Yugoslav leadership was, in the early 1990s, not only forwarding a progressive anti-imperialist and mass-based democratic worker run society, but also one infused with strong environmental ethic. Of course I could be wrong, but it would make sense... cheers!
