STOP GEORGIA'S POLICIES OF STATE TERRORISM, ABKHAZ
PUBLIC CALLS U.N., RUSSIA

-The public of the self-proclaimed republic within
Georgia are alarmed to see the latter building up
military might with active support of the USA and
other NATO countries.
-Its authors do not rule out direct US military aid to
Georgia if warfare resumes under the guise of
anti-terror action.

MOSCOW, March 20. /RIA Novosti/ - Georgia is
perpetrating policies of state terrorism, Abkhaz
political parties and public organisations say in a
joint statement circulated today. They appeal to the
United Nations and Russia to put an end to such
policies and ward off Georgian-Abkhaz warfare resumed.

The public of the self-proclaimed republic within
Georgia are alarmed to see the latter building up
military might with active support of the USA and
other NATO countries.

As soon as more than 200 American instructors appeared
in Georgia, its spokesmen's allegations got more
frequent than ever concerning Abkhazia harbouring
terrorist and religious extremist bases. Tbilisi is
willing to launch an anti-terror operation there.

As Georgia's President Eduard Shevardnadze
acknowledged quite recently, his envoys are in contact
with Chechen warlord Ghelayev, to whom the President
was referring in the most flattering terms. The
statement presents the fact as another proof of
Georgia re-enacting, within the year, violent
developments of October last in the Kodori Gorge.
Indicatively, Georgia is refusing to withdraw its
troops from the gorge, adds the document.

Its authors do not rule out direct US military aid to
Georgia if warfare resumes under the guise of
anti-terror action.

Abkhaz community activists express complete support of
republican President Vladislav Ardzinba as he seeks to
establish an Abkhaz-Russian association, which will
provide reliable guarantees of Abkhaz independence and
safety, and give an impetus to Abkhazia's economic
progress, says the statement.
