AFP. 24 March 2002. Milosevic supporters remember victims of NATO air
strikes.

BELGRADE -- Several thousand supporters of former president Slobodan
Milosevic attended a rally Sunday at Belgrade's main square to mark the
third anniversary of the start of NATO's bombing campaign against
Yugoslavia.

The rally under the slogan "Let's not forget" began shortly after noon
(1100 GMT) with protesters observing a minute's silence for victims of
the 11 weeks of NATO air strikes in 1999.

"Everything is worse since Slobodan has gone," read a placard, referring
to Milosevic's extradition last June to the UN war crimes tribunal in
the Hague.

The supporters of Milosevic's Socialist Party of Serbia, many of them
bused into Belgrade from towns throughout Serbia, carried posters of
Milosevic and flew party flags and those of Serbia and Yugoslavia during
the rally in Belgrade's Republic Square.

On March 24, 1999, NATO launched air strikes on Yugoslavia.

According to official data, more than 1,000 policemen and Yugoslav army
soldiers were killed, as well as more than 2,000 civilians, while
thousands were injured.
