A BAE employee charged with spying has been named as Ian
Parr, 45, of Tylney Avenue, Rochford, Essex.
He will appear before Bow Street Magistrates Court in London on Monday. Mr Parr has been charged with nine offences under the Official Secrets Act and one count of theft. The charges relate to documents he allegedly obtained while working for BAE Systems in Basildon, Essex. State safety He was arrested in Southend, Essex, after a joint operation between Essex Police and the security services.
Mr Parr, who was charged on Saturday night, is being held in custody.
A spokesman for Essex Police told BBC News Online: "They (the charges) relate to the fact that we believe he obtained documents and information he intended to pass on to an enemy, prejudicing... the safety of the state."
Mr Parr has been charged with nine offences under Section One of the Official Secrets Act, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years, and one offence relating to the alleged theft of the documents.
Section One of the Official Secrets Act 1989 relates specifically to security and intelligence matters in the UK. People subject to it are either members of the security and intelligence services or someone that has been notified that he or she has been made subject to the provisions of the act.
