Ananova : Arafat makes mobile call while under machine-gun fire ==================================== Yasser Arafat has used a mobile phone to complain about the US while being targeted by tanks and gun-fire. The Palestinian leader has bitterly condemned what he describes as US armed Israeli terrorism and accused CNN of bias toward the Israelis. He was speaking from his bunker in the West Bank town of Ramallah, with the sound of machine-gun fire audible in the background. Arafat said Israeli forces which smashed through the perimeter of his compound on Friday had destroyed 7 buildings and were firing at his office. "It is the real terrorism of the occupation," he said. "They are using all the American weapons against us." The US supplies Israel with the bulk of its military hardware, from M16 assault rifles to F16 and F15 warplanes and Apache attack helicopters. Israeli forces invaded Arafat's compound after the Israeli government declared him an "enemy" and said the Palestinian leader would be completely isolated, but not physically harmed. In the CNN interview, Arafat scoffed at the Israeli assurance of his safety. "They are shelling us continuously in the last 24 hours," he said. "What do you think, it's by chance ?" When asked by interviewers what he was doing to rein in Palestinian militants, he abruptly ended the interview.
