Pipe Bombs in Mailboxes Injure Seven in U.S. =============================== Xinhuanet 2002-05-04 06:54:39 WASHINGTON, May 3 (Xinhuanet) -- More than half a dozen pipe bombs exploded in rural mailboxes in two U.S. states of Illinois and Iowa on Friday, injuring at least seven people, authorities said. None of the injuries, including four postal workers, was life threatening, officials said. The attacks occurred within a 225- kilometer radius of Davenport, Iowa. Accompanying the bombs were notes complaining of government intrusion into citizens' lives, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service said. Local police warned residents against opening their mailboxes before further notice. The bombs were set to explode when the mailboxes were opened, investigators said. The Federal Bureau of Investigation viewed the attack "as a domestic terrorism incident," an FBI spokesman said. No suspect was named.
