AFP. 11 October 2002. Warplanes hit SAM site in southern Iraq: Pentagon. WASHINGTON -- Warplanes from a US-British coalition attacked a mobile surface-to-air missile site in southern Iraq Friday in the third consecutive day of strikes directed at Iraqi air defenses, US military officials said. Rear Admiral David Gove said the latest air strike was in response to Iraqi fire at coalition aircraft patrolling the no fly zone over the south.
