Police expected around 10,000 people to take part in the Paris march -- slated to start at 6:00 p.m. (1700 GMT) from the Luxembourg Gardens -- with smaller numbers in Lille, Bordeaux, Rennes, Rouen and other cities. "The vast majority of French people want France to use its veto in the UN security council to block American war-mongering," the organising committee -- consisting of around 100 associations, unions and left-wing parties -- said in a statement. The demonstrations were to coincide with protests being organised Wednesday on US university campuses, the committee said.
