"The ship 'Xawery Czernicki' and servicemen from the Operational Maneuver Response Group [GROM] are present in the area, and we will see whether there will be something else. We are working on various scenarios," Kwasniewski said. "We support the fight against terrorism and disarming Iraq through the most peaceful means and in the least military manner," he added, saying the peaceful options seem very unlikely to produce results. WARSAW, March 12 (AFP) - Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski said on Wednesday existing UN resolution 1441 is "sufficient" to launch a military campaign against Iraq. "We are seeing a big battle for a new (UN Security Council) resolution although, as far as we are concerned, resolution 1441 is a sufficient basis to launch military action if necessary," Kwasniewski told reporters. He said Poland's own position in the event of a military campaign would "depend on definitive decisions by the United Nations," stressing that Poland was not among "the main organisers of political or military action." "We are in favour of the fight against terrorism, for the disarmament of Iraq and for the most peaceful and least military solution possible, even though we fear the eventuality of a military operation has to be envisaged," he said. Poland's military participation in an eventual military campaign would be "very limited", he added. Poland has a ship, the Czarniecki, giving logistical support with about 40 people aboard and an elite unit in the Gulf. "We are working on several scenarios," Kwasniewski said, refusing to go into detail on preparations. WARSAW, March 12 (AFP) - Lech Walesa, a former Polish president and ex leader of the legendary Solidarity trade union, urged the international community on Wednesday to line up behind the United States in its hardline stance on Iraq. "The United States is the only country having a rapid reaction force at its disposal and which wants to use it to resolve the Iraq crisis," Walesa said in an open letter received by AFP. "Given the impotence of the United Nations, the international community should authorise the United States and its allies to represent it to take the measures which are indispensable," Walesa, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, said in the letter. "We have to use the American military potential with the backing of the UN Security Council," he added. He said that if that did not happen "we will see new misunderstandings spring up and mutual accusations, which will only have the effect of weakening cooperation between democratic countries. He was referring to divisions over Iraq between European countries on Iraq. Poland has sided with Britain in firmly backing the hardline US stance in the Iraqi conflict, unlike France, Germany and Belgium which are opposed to military action. Since his defeat to current president Aleksander Kwasniewski in 1995 Walesa has remained outside politics. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
