Prague: The Czech Defence Ministry is considering raising Czech participation in Afghanistan by up to 100 people in connection with the planned U.S. and other countries' reinforcements, Defence Minister Martin Bartak told CTK today. He said he wants to discuss the extending of Czech participation in ISAF mission, for instance, with the deployment of the artillery hunting radar Arthur or more people in the Czech team training an Afghan military battalion, with political parties. Bartak said he mainly wants to talk to the Social Democrats (CSSD) that have been opposed to raising the number of soldiers in foreign missions. "It would not definitely be a combat unit and definitely not special forces for 2010," Bartak said. He said the discussion could be held before the year's end and at the beginning of next year, the mission reinforcement proposal could be sent to the Chamber of Deputies. U.S. President Barack Obama said today the Untied States will raise the number of its soldiers by 30,000 to a total of 100,000 by mid-2010. The United States will ask allies for further reinforcements. In July 2011 the United States would like to start withdrawing from Afghanistan that its forces entered eight years ago. "I think we should also take part (in the reinforcements) in a reasonable form, to a reasonable extent," Bartak said.
