FoNet December 21, 2009 Macedonian soldiers go to Afghanistan -The Macedonian military has been cooperating within this formation since 1994, as part of a U.S. government program aimed at strengthening Washington's strategic ties with former communist countries. SKOPJE: 80 Macedonian soldiers will deploy in Afghanistan along with those from the U.S. National Guard from the U.S. state of Vermont, reports said. The National Guard, according to a FoNet news agency report, "has been persuading the Pentagon for 18 months to approve this". The Macedonian military has been cooperating within this formation since 1994, as part of a U.S. government program aimed at strengthening Washington's strategic ties with former communist countries.
