Interfax Ukraine January 20, 2010 Ukraine to give NATO its view of participation in alliance's rapid response force -NATO Spokesman James Appathurai..commented on whether this means that Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty will apply to Ukraine, which foresees the collective protection of a NATO member state in case of any armed attack. "No, this does not mean the application of Article 5, but this also does not mean that NATO will not be able to come to help if there is an emergency situation." Ukraine will submit its proposals to NATO regarding its participation in the alliance's rapid response force at a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of the chiefs of staff on January 26. NATO Military Committee representative Massimo Panizzi said this at a briefing in Brussels on Wednesday. He said that the other partner countries of the alliance could also put forward such proposals.
