Summary: Does nsd/dsprintf.c comply with GPL?

Initial Comment:
Is the license for the derivative of BSD's vsprintf
going to work with GPL?

Just a question; the solution itself is quite nice.

The license only applies to the files that have it--where
it says you can "delete this part and use the GPL instead"
is on a per-file basis. Those messages are not in the Tcl
libraries and some other BSD code (if it is then it needs
to be corrected).

I have to add a caveat: I'm not sure if the APL really can
cover the Tcl libraries but they seem to imply that they do
even though those versions of Tcl are under the BSD license.

OK, so you're therefore saying that aolserver.com is -not-
correct when it says that aolserver can be licensed under
the GPL by removing the part of the license that refers to
APL (leaving only the section referring to GPL).
<p>
Could you provide a diff between the function in dsprintf.c
and the function in BSD it was derived from? (no hurry...
when you have some free moments)

The dsprintf code is covered by the BSD license. The BSD
license has nothing at all to do with the GNU Public
License. The BSD license is also the license that covers
the Tcl libraries and some other code in AOLserver. The
stipulations of the license provide for unlimited use
provided that the original copyright information is
retained, which is what we do.

The GPL, or GNU Public License, has nothing to do with the
BSD license. Furthermore, AOLserver is covered by the
Mozilla Public License, a license that is somewhat similar
to both the BSD License and the GNU Public License. More
information can be obtained at
http://aolserver.com/license/.

Furthermore, we are given to understand from the reading of
the APL, the GPL, and the BSD license that an AOLserver-
derived distribution may only be licensed under the GPL if
all the encumbered code is removed. That code includes the
Tcl libraries and some code inside AOLserver which are
under the BSD license.

Kris
