I had been playing around with an Itanium Linux system in the Source Forge Compile Farm but it's been so long ago and I can't remember the hostname for the system anymore. I didn't think that the gcc compiler was 64-bit aware on Itanium (just like it is not 64-bit aware on Solaris SPARC, grrrr...).
