Try adding this and see if suddenly all is well:

    # Thread library (nsthread) parameters
    ns_section "ns/threads"
    ns_param   stacksize [expr 256*1024]

Something in the latest glibc is causing all apps to use a lot
more stack.  It has something to do with resolving hostnames and
ip's.
