As I recall, [ns_server] isn't thread-safe and could lead to crashes
under load, as documented on the wiki:

Try turning off that proc and eliminate calls to [ns_server] and see if
that increases your server's stability.

[ns_server] is still unsafe in 4.0.8a.  I don't know if it's worth the
effort to make [ns_server] safe, considering the performance impact it
the change would have.
