Tru64 is on Alpha, right. But I am using GNU Make 3.80 and GCC 3.3 for
this.

Definitly, "Madrake" is a typo, there sould be "Mandrake" instead, sorry.
It is on x86, completely different machine, no Alpha. I tried this machine
to be sure the problem is not in tru64 box.

Although this version seems to be pretty old, I didn't find a newer one
anywhere. Seems, gnu make is no longer developed.

What I exactly did was

got latest "threaded" versions of tcl+tk
then in aolserver source tree:
        ./configure --prefix=/usr/local
        make
