Well, the access logs shows a user using our CGI software after being
authenticated by htaccess. A while later (we seen anywhere between 45 minutes
and 4 hours later) a request identical to one of the originals appears in the
log (even the CGI environment seems to be the same). This access crashes our CGI
exe. The user is not on the system at the time.

Originally we thought that this error was simply a caching or browser issue, but
we just managed to replicate the problem in our lab. In this case, the error
happened around 45 minutes after the last legitimate access, and the browser in
question was not even running!

We have not managed to reproduce this problem again. All other reports have come
from our beta testers. One more thing, right now it seems like this is only
happening on dual processor machines. I would hesitate to say that for sure,
since I've only ever seen the bug once, but all of the reports from our beta
testers have been on dual processor machines under Windows NT.

Our product also runs under UNIX, and we have no reports of a similar bug there.
Of course, UNIX handles crashes much more gracefully.

I hope this helps. I'm not positive that this is a bug in Apache, but I thought
you guys might like to know. If you want, I can send you the actual access log
in question.

-TTYL, John
