Dear all, that's sad news, and unexpected, actually. However, if there are enthusiasts who really want to do something with Apertium at GSoC and are not focusing on a particular language, but the technology, they might want to look into https://gitlab.com/cdli/framework/-/wikis/Google-Summer-of-Code-GSoC-2022-Cuneiform-Digital-Library-Initiative-(CDLI)-ideas-list#apertium-phrase-based-mt-system (the first three tasks are Apertium-related, on MT and morphological parsing). The only caveat is that this is specifically tied to the Sumerian language.
