Dear Kenneth, As we near the 11th hour on the debt ceiling debate, it is clear that one block of votes can stop a deal that favors the rich and powerful at the expense of everyone else. The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) can block this deal and force Congress to vote on a clean debt ceiling increase without any conditions. But the CPC must stand united. The corporatists in Congress recognize that the United States cannot go into default for the first time in its 235-year history. Yet they are claiming that we can only increase the debt ceiling by cutting vital social programs designed to protect working-class and poor people across this country. Don't drink the Kool-Aid! We can block this "deal" and demand a clean debt ceiling increase. Besides alienating independents, President Obama continues to turn his back on progressive Democrats already angered by his escalation of the war in Afghanistan and his failure to get out of Iraq, close the Guantánamo Bay prison, end the Bush-era tax cuts, and enact a Medicare-for-all healthcare system. The question now is will the CPC rise to the fight? Email and call the CPC. Tell them: Stand up for those who have already sacrificed their jobs, homes, healthcare, and economic security You support Chairman Grijalva's position  Vote "no deal," and pass a clean debt-ceiling bill Email the CPC.
