An eye opening thing. This can happen in apnic also; anyone with money under hood (and intentions) can try to influence the apnic ec elections also. What options we have to stop this ?
In my opinion we should think on the following points to minimise the possibility of influencing the ec elections- 1. Removing the proxy stuff, as this opens up a possibility of playing with votes 2. Fixing up the number of subsequent terms of EC for any individual 3. Option of “vote out” (eliminating) the candidates along with voting. If 33% of total casts votes goes for eliminating an individual, then that individual will be out of the contest. 4. Involving LIR members in selecting the EC, as this further expand the member base. And possibility of influence will reduce further.
