IIRC, the version of MouseDesk I have is copyright 1985. I'm almost certain that no version predates the Macintosh: it is too similar to the Finder and the heritage of Macintosh style GUIs is fairly well known. Also: I find it difficult to compare MouseDesk to a GUI -- it is little more than a file manager and perhaps a program launcher. It would be akin to calling the Macintosh Finder a GUI then running text based MS-DOS programs with it. This seems to be something which Apple tried to avoid.
