Sunday, June 20, 2004 Is anyone on this list experienced in aligning the read/write head on the Apple 3.5 drive? I'd be happy to pay someone to fix my drive. Here's my story:
=============================================================== re: Apple 3.5 Drive, Part #A9M0106, Serial #Y6802U8 History: Bot drive 3/13/89. On 12/10/00, it acted up. Ran s-l-o-w. I blew compressed air into disk opening, and it then worked fine. On 6/15/04, a disk jammed in the drive. Neither software eject nor button eject worked. I partly removed case and pulled disk out. But then I could not insert a disk. I opened case and as I started disassembling the works, a 1/2" square aluminum plate fell out. It is a label, bearing the imprinted number G79A23, and has remnants of glue on its back side. It's obviously an internal label, documenting something about the drive. Now, the drive accepts disks and ejects normally. But - it will not read/write to a disk. It appears the read/write head might have moved out of alignment when I had removed the jammed disk. =============================================================== This drive is my last spare 3.5 drive for my two IIgs's that I use regularly. I'd sure like to get it fixed.
