Dale,
It has always been my opinion that Apple designed their power supplies
to fail. They put heat shrink on numerous resistors on the circuit board
and the heat buildup would fry those components. The later series Apple
//e power supply was an improvement but it also had lots of 1 ohm
resistors on the circuit board that would open up and stop the power
supply dead. I have replaced hundreds of those 1 ohm resistors in my
day. They also used a SGS Tompson power transistor that nobody made a
replacement for. SGS did not sell retail so the only fix was to send the
dead power supply back to Apple for repair/replacement. I used to rob
the SGS transistors from the Apple //Gs power supplies because they were
in warranty and the //e power supplies were not. I have fixed hundreds
of the //e and //gs power supplies in my day and I had a special jig of
power resistors with a fan blowing on the resistors to burn in the
repaired supply. Those were the days of soldering and unsoldering
components by the box full. The Apple //e power supply had a 6.3 mf 10
volt caps that would open up. We replaced them with 6.3 mf 16 volt caps
and that repaired the problem. Any power supply we took in for repair
always had that capacitor replaced first thing.

Subject: Enhanced IIe Power Supply (?)

If you are talking about any power supply from the platinum IIes, then I
have found them more problematic, failure-wise, than the older models.
Any Apple IIe power supply isn't worth much, yet, if it ever will be.
Five bucks plus postage, to me, is about a fair a price as you can get.
But I have a whole horde of them in the garage. If I thought they would
be worth putting on eBay, I would have done it long ago. I've had to
change-out, platinum with old black ones that worked just fine. Working
with 60 Apple IIes in a grade school, the ONLY ones I ever had go down
were the aluminum ones I found in Platinum IIes.
