If you can find a SCSI card, your IIgs will become like an older Macintosh in SCSI functionality. It adds an external SCSI port you can chain devices up to, including hard drives. You can also hook up a ZIP drive and/or CDROM.

I don't know how hard these cards are to find-- my IIgs came with one already installed, the Apple Hi-Speed SCSI card. I have an external hard drive connected to my IIgs, as well as a ZIP-100.

Depending on your needs and how much they cost nowadays, this might be the better option.
