Thanks everyone for your replies! It occurred to me, after a
conversation off-list with Ed E. that someone must have swapped-out a
larger RAM card before I got this system. As I was saying to him, I
got this as a cast-off from work. But everything was right there,
except (curiously) the keyboard and mouse. Perhaps when these
"walked" the person snagged the RAM card, too. Otherwise it simply
would not make any sense that the configuration as I received it
(SCSI card, hard drive, booting into GS System 6.0.1) should not have
worked. I guess I do need to look for some more RAM if I want to lay
with this anymore.
Happy to have generated some conversation on the list...
