I cannot speak for compatibility, but they may still be worth using
in some circumstances.  For example, I seem to recall the Videx
supporting character attributes besides inverse or flash.  Of
course, most Apple II software won't support that.  On the other
hand, if you are accessing a Unix system you may be able to put
those extra attributes to use.  For example: the termcap found on
most modern Unix distributions does support the Videx card.
