Like Bill said, you need the card to get the additional storage space the
HD drive will give you. I've got one hooked up to my Apple SuperDrive
controller card and it works well with both 800k and 1.44 disks in my //e.
I've tried it on a GS, and as advertised, it works as a standard 800k
drive when plugged into the drive port on the back.
