Hi All,

I have a small appletalk network set up consisting of several macs and,
of course, my GS.(A ROM 3) I recently had to take a Laserwriter out of
service because of space constraints. (BTW If anyone wants it (free)
give me a shout off list and we'll talk.)

I have an HP Deskwriter 540 DL that serves the macs well. It has a
serial port and is appletalk ready. At this point I'm using a switchbox
when I want to print from the GS. However, I would like to print over
the network if possible. A bit of googling gives me a very definitive
"No" as the answer but knowing the resourcefullnes of the A2 users I
thought I would check in before I gave up.

Also, anticipating that I am stuck with my switchbox, anyone see any
harm switching between the AT network and serial printing while the
network is active? I did a smoke test with a spare network and all
seemed well but I don't want to stress the ports too much? I have been
setting up to serial print before starting the GS so to avoid the
problem but it would be nice to switch at will.

Lastly, I cannot print from Appleworks or any other P8 program with this
printer. Anyone have a way around this? I have the set of Harmon print
drivers that work well with a DeskJet but not the DeskWriter. Not to big
of a problem as I do most of my Appleworks in emulation on a larger
screen and it prints fine to the Deskwriter using Bernie and most of the
other P8 programs I use are on a stand alone GS with the venerable
Imagewriter II.

TIA for the help.

Pete Paul
