Iam,

Got a way to hook your //e up to another computer? Reason why I ask,
there's a file called dos33dmp.txt on one of the Apple II disk image sites
that is a executable text file which will create a version of DOS 3.3 on
any Apple II that has a Super Serial card installed. Essentially, you use
a DB-25 to DIN-8 or DB-9 cable to hook both computers up, then use a
terminal program on the Mac or PC to transmit the file to the //e.

Here's how you go about doing it:

Download the dos33dmp.txt file from (I think) the Trenco archives.

Connect both machines up (either one of the Mac serial ports - use an older
Mac or one that has a gPort installed)
Turn on the //e
Hit Control-Reset
Run a terminal program on the Mac (or PC, if you swing that way - I seem to
remember that ya don't) - ZTerm works well
On the //e, type IN#2 (the Super Serial card should be in slot #2, btw,
with the jumper block set to "TERMINAL")
In the terminal program, send the dos33dmp.txt file to the //e.

Let it compile on the //e.

Once you're done, the computer will have DOS 3.3 loaded. Insert a blank
disk into the floppy drive, type "INIT HELLO" and let it initialize the
disk. When it's done, you will have a copy of DOS 3.3 that you can use to
boot the machine.

I suspect the Pac-MAN disk got damaged in shipping... Just had the same
thing happen to my DOS 3.3 Sample Programs disk that I won off eBay.
Worked for a while, then started getting flaky.

The other possibility is that one of the chips on the analog board for the
floppy drive went bad.
