Hi,
I follow the steps from
here:
http://debian.org/releases/lenny/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html
to upgrade from Etch to Lenny, and after I install aptitude with
aptitude install aptitude
and try to run
aptitude upgrade
I get the error message:
Illegal instruction
I can't to use aptitude anymore.
When I try to use apt-get:
apt-get update
I get the same error message:
Illegal instruction
I'm running i386 hardware:

Now I search for a solution.
I edited again sources.list back to Etch:

did:
sudo apt-get update
successfully
but still can't get to works
apt-get install aptitude
I try:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of aptitude:
aptitude depends on libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11; however:
Package libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11 is not installed.

I try:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure apt-get

/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: apt-get is not installed
How can I find the package libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11 to download it
and install it with dpkg?

OK, I will close the bug report then.
Thanks for reporting the problem, though, and sorry that you didn't
get the problem solved at the time.
As an anectode, I have an AMD Atlhon from the year 1999/2000 that was
still working in 2013 or even 2014 (and maybe today, but I haven't
switched on that computer in a while...), and I don't remember seeing
these problems. But then, it's a K7 and not a K6, so the instruction
set is more modern anyway.
