I am using gnucash 1.8.11 and aqbanking 1.9.6

and which configure options did you use for aqbanking? See also http://linuxwiki.de/AqBanking for some explanations on this.

I changed nothing in the configure options after I downloaded the package, so I
think
I used the default options. Does I have to edit some options?

No, the default options should be just fine, that's why I was asking. Can you now explain a bit more clearly what steps you did when you encountered this problem? You clicked xy, then xy, then ...

As for this "cfg_module" -- does the directory /usr/lib/aqbanking/plugins/14/frontends/qbanking/cfgmodules exist on your system? If it doesn't, which directory of that path exists? If it does, can you please do

 ls /usr/lib/aqbanking/plugins/14/frontends/qbanking/cfgmodules
 ldd /usr/lib/aqbanking/plugins/14/frontends/qbanking/cfgmodules/aqhbci.so

and send us the output? (I think the number 14 is from aqbanking-1.9.7; for your earlier version, the number is probably smaller.) With my aqbanking-1.9.7 (from CVS) I don't see this problem, so we need to narrow down the cause of the problem. Maybe you should update to aqbanking-1.9.7 first anyway.
