Yes, I found it. Simply copying the fink-version to /usr/lib also
solves the problem

Apple's linker strikes again. See

Apple's libiconv.2.dylib has an older compatibility version than
fink's, but even if you explicitly call /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib,
ld will sometimes just go ahead and use /usr/lib/libiconv.2.dylib.
In any event, Apple's libiconv seems broken to me, at least with
respect to compatibility version.
