I have an old 486 with 8 mb of ram and I'm running a small
umsdos distribution called pygmy-linux on it. The version is
0.6 and as far as I can see it is libc6 based. I didn't have
any luck with arachne on that machine but that was due to my
graphics card not being recognized properly by svgalib, no
matter what setting I use in libvga.conf. I suspect that many
subscribers to this list are still clinging a little to Dos and
so pygmy is an easy way to quickly install and run Linux on
their dos machines without repartitioning and what not. Here is
the description from Freshmeat:

                      --------------

Dependancy:
Description: PYGMY LINUX is a small distribution of the Linux
operating system. It is UMSDOS based, so it allows
a novice user to install a fully-functional Linux
system that co-exists peacefully with DOS/Win95,98
on the same partition. Pygmy is internet ready; it
supports net connections via modem (PPP) and
ethernet cards (LAN). Pygmy Linux comes as a
self-extracting RAR file set (8 files in all),
which is split up to allow copying to/from
             floppies.

Kind regards,

Morten
