One thing that was glaringly absent from this discussion was
PHP. It resides within the web page like JavaScript, but is
executed on the server like CGI, so has the advantage of being
anybrowser compatible.
How can you beat that? The ease of JavaScript with the power
of CGI... and more available than ASP.
